Why we need a train……

Double decker bus stuck in queue of traffic in the sunshine
Cars queuing along a market town road

Bakewell is a pretty market town in the Peak District, and is very popular with visitors. Unfortunately the biggest impression on many of them must be the traffic queues and difficulty in parking.

There is no train service to Bakewell, and while there are buses from the three nearest urban centres (Sheffield, Chesterfield and Derby) they are often unreliable due to traffic congestion, especially on weekends and school holidays.

Restoring our railway, and providing a rail service from Derby to Manchester, through Bakewell and the heart of the Peak District, would give residents and visitors alike another way to travel. Communities all along the line would gain better access to jobs and education and be able to connect with friends and family more easily. And reducing the emissions from all those cars will help protect the Natural Park we love.
